Ever since Netflix’s popular period drama series, Bridgerton arrived on the streaming platform, it has become extremely popular and has been watched by around 63 million households since its December 25 premiere. The show has received rave reviews due to its outfits, its diverse cast of characters and for its social relevance. However, Bridgerton has also been in the news due to its explicit sex scenes which have gone viral. Now, Page Six is reporting that “pirated sex scenes from the period piece have racked up hundreds of thousands of views on adult video-streaming platforms, leaving Netflix execs struggling to yank the unauthorized shared footage.”

The streaming giant has allegedly filed warnings about the misuse of their “intellectual property” and has managed to get a few videos taken down but it would be nigh impossible to get them completely taken off the internet.

“Bridgerton’s sex scenes appearing alongside some of the most obscene material the web has to offer has sparked horror and anger. Raunchy set pieces have contributed to the buzz but it is a prestige drama based on best-selling novels. To peddle scenes as pure smut is beyond the pale,” an insider with knowledge of the situation has told The Sun. It is also being reported that Phoebe Dynevor, the lead actress, is upset because of the sex scenes being circulated on these sites.

“It’s been particularly distressing for Phoebe and Regé-Jean, two young actors who signed on for the role of a lifetime and did not consent to being exploited in this way,” the insider added.

This is, of course, not the first time that a web series or a movie is facing this fate. Sex scenes from the popular Game of Thrones series have been widely circulated on the dark corners of the internet and other films with explicit content often find their material edited and uploaded on porn sites like PornHub and Xvideos.

Bridgerton currently holds a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is rated 7.4 out of 10 on IMDb.

Deadline is also reporting that the Shondaland drama can be expected to be renewed for a Season 2 any day now considering its immense popularity.
