Continuing the trend of historical dramas ruling the box office, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior appears to be doing fabulously well and has the cash registers ringing. Period films have performed extraordinarily well at the box office and hence, expectations were high from the minute we heard that Tanhaji went on the floors.
According to Filmfare, the film had a decent opening of Rs 15.10 crores on Friday and managed to close the weekend at a whopping Rs 61.93 crore. On Monday, the film raked in Rs 13.75 crores, bringing the total collection to a more than decent Rs 75.63 crores.
The film stars Ajay Devgn in the lead along with Kajol and Saif Ali Khan plays the antagonist Uday Bhan.
Chhapaak, starring Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey is based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Aggarwal and while its storyline appears to have intrigued a section of the critics, it hasn’t done that well with the masses. The film opened at a below-average Rs 4.77 crore followed by Rs 6.70 crore and Rs 7.35 crore on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, it raked in Rs 2.35 crore bringing the total collection to Rs 21.37 crore.
