It’s always nice to witness debuts in Bollywood even though our Instagram feeds are saturated with the people making them. It’s a ruthless industry and about 30 percent of people making these debuts will go on to have successful careers. The rest will peter out — unless Karan Johar decides to take them under his wing. Below, we catalogue five people we are excited to see on the big screen in 2020.
ALAYA F
Pooja Bedi’s daughter is the new star kid on the block who is going to try her luck out in the movie business. Rumour around town has it that the producers of Alaya’s debut film, Jawaani Jaaneman, were so impressed with her acting chops that they have already signed her on for a three-film deal. The trailer of the film, which also stars Saif Ali Khan and Tabu, looks fun enough for us to get excited about this one’s debut.
AHAN SHETTY
This one’s already setting the temperatures soaring. While Suniel Shetty’s daughter veritably disappeared after doing Hero, we’re hoping the same fate doesn’t befall Ahan. His debut film is called Tadap, which is a remake of the 2018 Telugu hit, RX100. Directed by Sajid Nadiadwala, this action thriller will also star Tara Sutaria.
SHALINI PANDEY
Remember when Anushka Sharma and Deepika Padukone made their debuts opposite Shah Rukh Khan and we were intrigued about how someone gets to debut opposite SRK? Well, in 2020, actress Shalini Pandey is creating the same buzz with her debut opposite Ranveer Singh in Jayeshbhai Jordaar, a comedy written and directed by Divyang Thakkar and produced under the Yash Raj Films banner.
MANUSHI CHHILLAR
We were first introduced to Miss Chhillar when she broke desi Internet after being crowned Miss World 2017. Now, on Diwali 2020, she’ll make her debut on the big screen with Dr Chandrapakash Dwivedi’s Prithviraj which is based on — yes, you guessed it right — the life of Maharaja Prithviraj Chauhan. The film stars Akshay Kumar in the lead role and Chhillar will be playing his wife, Sanyogita.
PAVAIL GULATI
This one’s been around for a while and has done some fun TV series, but his big Bollywood debut comes in 2020 with Thappad, which is directed by Anubhav Sinha. While the people behind this project are being hush-hush about the exact storyline, what we do know is that Gulati will be starring opposite Taapsee Pannu in the film. Here’s hoping he strikes gold.
