Kajol turns 48 today! Her career, spanning the last few decades, has been filled with impressive performances. After having kickstarted her career in 1992 with Bekhudi, Kajol turned out to be a soaring overnight success. The kind of roles she did back then and in the 2000s is proof of her acting prowess. Here’s taking a look at them: 

 

Priya from Baazigar 

 

This 1993 movie changed the course of Kajol’s career. She played the role of a naïve girl named Priya Chopra, who was on the lookout for her sister’s killer. In the midst of the search, she falls in love with Shah Rukh Khan The movie is still widely loved by fans and critics, and is pegged as one of her most memorable performances yet.

 

Simran from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge  

‘Ja Simran ja, jee le apni zindagi’ — this iconic dialogue from this movie continues to tug at the heartstrings of many. This cult movie, which was released in 1995, added another feather to Kajol’s cap. What’s more, this movie kept running in the Maratha Mandir theatre for 25 years until 2020! This is the love story of two NRIs falling in love  and then convincing their families so that they could unite.   

 

Isha from Gupt 

After doing a spate of romantic dramas, Kajol branched out to thrillers and that is how she chose 1997’s cult classic, Gupt. The thriller genre was new to the Indian audience back then. The actress known for her versatility impressed her audience with the character of an obsessive young woman.   

 

Anjali from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai  

After her tryst with romance and thriller, Kajol moved on to a look change in 1998’s Kuch Kuch Hota Ha as Anjali Sharma. A bob cut with athleisure outfits, bubbling with energy, is what the audience got to see in the first half of the movie. The second half saw a grew up version of her in a saree which melted hearts.  

 

Anjali from Kabhi Khushi Khabhie Gham… 

In 2001 she again played the character of Anjali who is a bubbly girl with no filter. She belonged to a middle-class family, whereas SRK, her counterpart in the movie, came from a wealthy family. Her quirky and witty dialogues are still used as meme materials even today.  

 

Zooni from Fanaa

After taking a break for a few years, she resumed working again in 2006 with Fanaa. She played the role of Zooni who is blind and her love story takes shape with a terrorist, which obviously she was oblivious to. The actress understood the nuances of the character and came back after a hiatus with a bang!
