After exploring the story of a struggling genius in Boston, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are back for a Nike movie…no seriously. The pair have reunited again to capture the meteoric rise of Nike after the introduction of Air Jordan shoes.
Both Affleck and Damon were previously seen in Ridley Scott-directed historical film, The Last Duel. However, this time around Affleck will be donning the director’s hat after his exit from the revamped DCEU.
Produced by MGM and Amazon, AIR tells the story of Sonny Vaccaro, a Nike shoe salesman who is trying to sign NBA superstar Michael Jordan, before his fame to success. Affleck, on the other hand, plays the role of Phil Knight, the eccentric Nike owner. Here’s what the official synopsis reads like: “Follows the history of shoe salesman Sonny Vaccaro, and how he led Nike in its pursuit of the greatest athlete in the history of sports: Michael Jordan.”
The 2-minute-long trailer takes us back to the 80s and follows the meteoric rise of both Nike shoes and Michael Jordan. Apart from the duo, AIR features a fairly impressive ensemble cast of Jason Bateman, Chris Messina, Marlon Wayans, Chris Tucker, Viola Davis, Matthew Maher, and Tom Papa.
The movie is set to premiere on April 5, 2023, internationally. However, Indian audiences will be able to see the movie directly on Amazon Prime Video.
