The highly anticipated Bell Bottom marks the first major release since the lockdown owing to the second COVID-19 wave.
A trade source supposedly disclosed to media outlet Bollywood Hungama that the film starring Akshay Kumar might be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video as soon as next month.
“The makers of Bell Bottom and Akshay Kumar have the option to release the film on the digital platform after four weeks from its theatrical release. In fact, Amazon Prime Video has already acquired the streaming rights of Bell Bottom and will premiere the film on its OTT streaming platform,” said the aforementioned source.
There is no confirmation, however, from either party.
The source continued, “The producer of Bell Bottom, Vashu Bhagnani, wanted to premiere the film on OTT two weeks after its release. However, with national multiplex chains negotiating the theatrical release and terms, Bhagnani finally settled for four weeks.”
The legal work allows the makers to allow the movie to stream online anytime post September 15. Unlike the usual eight-week period before a piece of work can hit the theatres, they only wait for 4. However, the date remains undecided but can be expected to be close to the end of the month.
Despite restrictions that are in place across the nation to curb the spread of Covid-19 infection, the makers of the film decided to release the movie across 1600 screens in India. It is expected that the overall revenue would be affected due to limited seating.
Alongside Kumar are Lara Dutta, Vaani Kapoor, and Huma Qureshi to be seen in the film.
Bell Bottom, based on a true story, is one in which Akshay Kumar’s character is assigned the mission of rescuing 210 hostages from a hijacked Indian plane. Kumar will grace the titular role, as an undercover RAW agent.
The movie has received mixed reactions and was leaked online to pirate mere hours post-release.
