Netflix has announced its next interactive venture — a choose-your-adventure survival series called You vs. Wild, starring Bear Grylls, the outdoor survival expert best known for his Discovery Channel series Man vs. Wild.
After the raging success of Netflix’s first interactive venture, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, the streaming giant looks to continue the streak by adding yet another show which follows the same format.
The show was announced at Netflix’s press event in Los Angeles and will allow viewers to virtually hitch a ride along with Grylls on his adventures around the world as he tries to survive what nature throws at him. While Bandersnatch revolved around the fictitious story of a game developer, You vs Wild will put Bear Grylls in life-threatening situations and will let you decide the next move he makes.
“I’m so proud to deliver this first-of-its-kind live-action interactive series, really giving viewers an all access pass to explore the world and its landscapes in my boots,” Grylls said in a statement.

Even though Grylls does find himself in tough, life-threatening circumstances, the show is meant to be more family friendly. When jokingly asked whether viewers could make choices that would kill Bear Grylls, Netflix Vice President of Original Series, Cindy Holland laughed and said she doesn’t expect You Vs. Wild to be as “dark” as Bandersnatch, reported Variety.
The season will have eight episodes, giving viewers plenty of opportunities to direct Grylls, from snow-covered mountains to scorching barrens, helping him escape treacherous terrains and precarious situations.
You vs. Wild will only marks the beginning of Netflix’s interactive media ambitions, given that Netflix product VP Todd Yellin commented that the company was “doubling down” on interactive storytelling.
You vs Wild will be released on April 10.
