The Marvel universe is ever expanding with the creators making sure the fans get something new every time. Considering the huge success that Spider-Man has been, Marvel has constantly been trying to expand the Spiderverse. After Venom and Morbious, a new member is all set to be introduced to the Spider-Man story. Rapper Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, better known by his stage name ‘Bad Bunny’, has been cast as El Muerto.
Ocasio becomes the newest Marvel villain who will get its standalone film. He will also be the first-ever Latino to star in a live-action Marvel movie. The character was introduced by Sony Motion Pictures Group president Sanford Panitch at CinemaCon, an annual event for movie theater owners in Las Vegas.
“To bring El Muerto to life is just incredible .. so exciting,” said Bad Bunny. The singer, who is also a former wrestler, said that he grew up a fan of wrestling. El Muerto aka Juan-Carlos Estrada Sanchez from the Marvel comics is also a wrestler.
El Muerto gets his powers from his ancestors in the form of a mask, which provide him with superhuman strength, as mentioned on Marvel’s official site. It is being suggested that Ocasio will essay an ant-ihero on the verge of inheriting his father’s power.
After the hit Tom Holland-led Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams’ Venom, Jared Leto’s Morbius and the Oscar-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, there are more projects are coming our way.
A sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was just pushed from a December 2022 release to June 2023. Madame Web starring Dakota Johnson is due in theaters on July 7th, 2023. Also in the calendar is Kraven the Hunter, led by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, which hits theaters on January 13th, 2023.
