Mrunal Thakur On 'Jersey' And It's Clash With ‘KGF 2’ And ‘Beast’
Mrunal Thakur’s Take On ‘Jersey’ Clashing With ‘KGF 2’ And ‘Beast’

‘Jersey’ stars Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur, and is a remake of the Telugu hit. The film will now come to theatres on April 22

Jersey, starring Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur, has been postponed again. Though many industry insiders believe the sports drama’s clash with Yash’s upcoming KGF: Chapter 2 and Vijay’s Beast is what forced team Jersey to take the step, there’s been no official confirmation of this. The movie will release on April 22nd, 2022.

Mrunal Thakur, the lead actress, had said it was a festive weekend (Good Friday) and hence a ‘prudent’ time for all the movies. Speaking about blocking April 14th as the film’s release date, the actor, in an exclusive interview with Man’s World said, “After the pandemic, I think we are all coming together. It’s not about South films or Hindi films but it’s all about Indian Films releasing and it’s a long weekend and I think Beast is largely for a different market. And KGF 2 is an action film. We are very much a family film. So, the genres are very different. The audience will be spoilt for choices.”

Jersey is an adaptation of the Telugu hit of the same name. For Mrunal, script selection rests on how relatable or interesting the role that’s being offered is, the strengths of that character, and most importantly the story being told. She said, “For an actor to be cast in films with a great script and a great team backing it is of utmost importance. I don’t fear being typecast because I know as an actor what and how I can differentiate the roles I’m essaying.”

While talking about her character in the film, the Dhamaka actor said, “Vidya is strong and is capable of taking care of the family. The film is set in the ‘90s – a time when women were supposed to be housewives and men were the breadwinners. But in the film, Vidya is the man of the house. People will see a different shade of me.”

After Jersey, Mrunal Thakur will be seen in Pippa starring Ishan Khattar. She also has the Hindi remake of Tamil blockbuster Thadam in the pipeline. The action-thriller stars Aditya Roy Kapur as the male lead. The actress has also been roped in to play the role of Sita in Dulquer Salmaan’s upcoming film with director Hanu Raghavapudi.
