Sima Mami from Mumbai has taken the internet by storm. Ever since Indian Matchmaking and its lead, Sima Taparia arrived at Netflix, the world has either been hate-watching it or LOL-ing their way through the episodes.

The debut season of the show features Mumbai’s top matchmaker Sima Taparia as she tries to ‘match’ individuals based on their criteria and desires. Her accomplices in this endeavour are face readers, astrologers, life coaches, and fellow matchmakers.

But what’s surprising is that while the series gives off a “happily ever after” ending, the Los Angeles Times has found that after the cameras moved away, the individuals featured on the show aren’t together anymore.

Take Aparna Shewakramani who set the internet ablaze with her list of demands and deadpan comic delivery (unintentional though it might be). Shewakramani told The Times that the cameras “surprisingly added more stress in wanting to make the match work, because it felt like so much more hinged on it.” While the series left its viewers hoping that she had made it work with Jay from Atlanta, Shewakramani says that she is not dating any of her pairings.

Then there’s Pradhyuman Maloo who is a Mumbai-based jewelry designer who also happens to be a closet chef. After having turned down around 150 matches, viewers thought he’d found the one in Delhi-based model-actress Rushali but they are not seeing each other anymore.

“We had different paths in life and we respected that and moved ahead,” he told The Times. “I’m still looking for the right one.”

Then there was the beautiful Nadia Jagessar who left viewers wondering how someone so gorgeous, accomplished, and good-natured could be single. During the season of Indian Matchmaking, she and Shekhar from Chicago seemed to get along really well but The Times found out that they aren’t even talking anymore.

“Being off-camera definitely changed the dynamic between myself and the matches that I had continued talking to, and obviously, the change was not positive,” she said. “But it helped me learn more about myself and what I’m looking for in a future partner.”

Let’s move on to Akshay Jakhete who became the subject of numerous memes because of his intense idolization of his mother. While the series ended with Jakhete and Radhika from Udaipur participating in an engagement ceremony, the twist in the tale is that two never really got formally engaged or married and are no longer together.

“A few days later, there were some things which we found out that did not go down well with us, and eventually I called it off,” he told The Times.

It appears, as Sima Auntie says during the series, the stars were truly not aligned for any of them.
