Amitabh Bachchan, Emraan Hashmi starrer Chehre piqued a lot of excitement among fans after the makers unveiled its trailer recently. The film was supposed to make it to the theatres on April 9 but with the rising Covid-19 cases, the makers deemed fit that they release the film on a later date. The film’s producers, on March 30, announced that they will be rescheduling the film’s release amid a surge in COVID-19 cases and because of the new guidelines for theatres issued by the government.

An excerpt of the official statement read, “Due to the rising cases of COVID-19 and new guidelines for cinemas, we are unable to release our movie Chehre on 9th April, and have decided to postpone until further notice. We have decided to bring Chehre to the audience theatrically when the environment is more conducive for the experience.” Hashmi and Chehre’s producer, Anand Pandit, shared the statement on their respective Twitter handles, and asked everyone to stay safe till the theatres are open to operate normally again.
Directed by Rumy Jafry, the mystery-thriller also stars Annu Kapoor, Krystle D’Souza, Drithiman Chakroborthy, Raghubir Yadav and Siddhanth Kapoor in pivotal roles. Considering that Chehre has already been delayed by a year, questions were raised if the makers will opt for an OTT route for the film now. Clearing the air around the same, Pandit told Mid-Day that they will wait for things to get back to normal, and will only release the film in theatres.
“At this point, we are not looking at an OTT [premiere]. Amitji and Emraan applauded my decision to postpone the release. We are on the same page when it comes to audience safety. Amitji said that viewers must enjoy the film without any fear,” said the producer.
