Prabhas and Kriti Sanon’s much-awaited Adipurush was scheduled for release in January, next year. However, fans will now have to wait a bit longer than expected, as director Om Raut recently took to Instagram to drop a new release date : June 12, 2023. While the reason behind the move remains unknown, scores of fans believe the postponement certainly has something to do with the movie’s weak VFX scenes.
Here’s How The Internet Has Reacted So Far
Adipurush‘s teaser was released a while ago, and fan reactions were far from good. Turns out, the collective disappointment stems from the fact that the movie’s VFX was poorly done, as compared to similar releases like Brahmastra. It is also believed that a certain section of audiences felt the movie allegedly hurt religious sentiments with inaccurate representations of revered mythological characters.
Speaking of which, Raut said, “We have not done anything wrong in this film. People are getting a few things wrong here. With this film, we want to introduce the story of Lord Ram to the world. We want to spread his teachings among the youth. If we represent it in a way through which we can reach the new generation, then only we can talk to the new generation. Is there any less belief in this because of this? No. We have maintained the sanctity of everything.”
Adipurush is based on the ancient Sanskrit epic, Ramayana, which sees Prabhas and Sanon play Raghava and Janaki, while Saif Ali Khan and Sunny Kaushal essay the roles of Lankesh and Lakshmana. Rumour has it that several top actresses like Anushka Sharma, Anushka Shetty, and Kiara Advani were approached for the role of Sita.
The movie has reportedly been made on a mega budget of Rs. 400 crores. Given its delay, insiders now speculate that the budget might shoot up even further. Adipurush is one of the most expensive films to be made in Bollywood after Brahmastra and Baahubali.
Raut clearly has big shoes to fill with this undertaking as the animated version of Ramayana has been a cult favorite for decades now. However, things don’t seem to be looking up for the team, as fans are of the opinion that the 1992-version was far better than Raut’s forthcoming offering after the movie’s teaser dropped.
