Gourav will compete against late Chadwick Boseman for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Riz Ahmed for Sound Of Meta, and Anthony Hopkins for The Father. Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round) and French actor Tahar Rahim (The Mauritanian) are also nominated in the leading actor category. Reacting to the news, the actor told PTI, “This is so unexpected and overwhelming. This is unbelievable. It is surreal.”
Interestingly, Gourav is the third Indian actor to have ever bagged a BAFTA nomination. Earlier, Anupam Kher was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the BBC TV movie The Boy With The Topknot in 2018. Life of Pi lead star Suraj Sharma was nominated for the BAFTA Rising Star award back in 2013. While these two actors did not win the award, it is will intriguing to see if Gourav finally brings a BAFTA home.
Chopra, who was also the executive producer of the film, took to Twitter to react to this exciting news. “What a proud moment for Indian with 2 BAFTA nominations for an all Indian star cast!! Ecstatic for you @_GouravAdarsh, you are so deserving of this recognition, and congratulations #RaminBahrani, so well deserved,” she wrote.
