Lagaan marked 21 years of its release recently and it made everyone want to go back and watch the film. The film, which starred Aamir Khan and Gracy Singh, is still talked about when great cinema is discussed. It was also the third Indian film to be nominated at the Oscars, after Mother India and Salaam Bombay.
The appeal of the film hasn’t withered away in these years, and adding to the many ways it has been appreciated, a Broadway adaptation of it might soon be in the works. Sources close to the development stated, “Several leading producers from the UK have requested for the rights from Aamir Khan Productions and a final decision will be made soon regarding the West End Theatre”.
The source also revealed, “Aamir Khan’s team is yet to make a final decision about it. The makers have different plans which include doing a worldwide tour of the show that will feature a completely original cast.” If the deal cracks, the Brits take on Lagaan — a sports-drama movie based on cricket and India’s victory against the Britishers — will be interesting to watch.
To celebrate 21 years of the film, Aamir Khan invited the members of the cast to his house, to discuss and celebrate the iconic sports-drama film.
Apart from celebrating the legacy of Lagaan, Aamir Khan is busy a busy man. He will be seen in Laal Singh Chaddha next. The film reunites him with Kareena Kapoor Khan which also marks their third collaboration after 3 Idiots and Talaash. Directed by Advait Chandan, the film is the official Bollywood remake of the Hollywood classic Forrest Gump featuring Tom Hanks in the lead. The film also stars Naga Chaitanya in a key role.
