Director Francis Lawrence, screenwriter Michael Arndt and producer Nina Jacobson will be adapting Suzanne Collins’ latest Panem novel set in the Hunger Games universe. Collins is getting set to release her latest novel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snake on May 19 and Lionsgate has announced that a Hunger Games prequel movie is in the works.

Jacobson has earlier worked with the studio on the previous four film adaptations that have raked in nearly three billion dollars at the box office.

However, according to media reports, there’s no word yet on the casting for the sequel. “Suzanne’s new book has been worth the wait. It offers everything fans could hope for and expect from The Hunger Games while also breaking new ground and introducing an entirely new canvas of characters,” Joe Drake, chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group said in a statement.

However, what we do know is that the prequel film will focus on President Coriolanus Snow at the age of 18, way before he became the tyrannical President of Panem. The charming and handsome Snow comes from a family that has fallen on hard times but he believes that he can turn around his fortune when he is chosen to mentor at the 10th Hunger Games. However, he soon loses hope when he realises that he has been assigned to mentor a girl tribute from District 12.
