Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas announced the nomination of the 93rd annual Academy Awards on Monday, and we saw many expected and unexpected projects make it to the list. While Netflix film Mank dominated the Oscar nominations with its name in 10 categories, Nomadland, The Trial Of The Chicago 7, Promising Young Woman and Judas And The Black Messiah also received multiple nods. Late actor Chadwick Boseman got nominated for Best Actor for his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, while Minari, a drama about South Korean immigrants, got six nods in total.

Last year, the Oscars were massively criticised for overlooking actors of colour and women in direction. The Academy Awards made sure they don’t repeat the mistake. Chloe Zhao and Emerald Fennell were nominated in the Best Director category for Nomadland and Promising Young Woman, respectively. Viola Davis (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) and Andra Day (The United States Vs Billie Holiday), Daniel Kaluuya (Judas And The Black Messiah), Leslie Odom Jr (One Night In Miami), and Lakeith Stanfield (Judas And The Black Messiah) also received nominations this year.
The Oscars will take place on April 25 (April 26 for India), two months later than usual because of the pandemic. Meanwhile, check out the full list of nominations and snubs this year:
