7 Upcoming Bollywood Movies Based On True Events

True events have inspired a number of stories in Bollywood. Here’s the list of movies that’ll release in 2022

Films based on real-life events draw in a special crowd in Bollywood. Biopics usually do well at the box office and that’s enough proof that audiences like watching non-fictional stories about inspiring people or true events that shocked the world. Be it Ranveer Singh’s 83, Runway 34 featuring Ajay Devgn and Amitabh Bachchan, or Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom, the films have managed to strike a chord with the audiences. The year 2022 looks promising too as in the pipeline are a number of releases based on true events. Let’s take a look:

Prithviraj

The Yash Raj film, based on the life of Maharaja Prithviraj Chauhan, has been in the making for a while. The Akshay Kumar film also stars Miss World Manushi Chhillar as Princess Sanyogita. Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood will also be seen in the movie.

Shabaash Mithu

We’ve seen a number of biopics in Bollywood but there haven’t been too many on female athletes. Shabaash Mithu is ready to change that as it is based on the legendary cricketer and ODI captain of the Indian women’s national cricket team Mithali Raj. Taapsee Pannu plays the lead role.

Major

Directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka, Major is a biographical action-drama based on true incidents. It tells the story of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who was martyred saving people during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. The film will feature Telugu actor Adivi Sesh.

Maidaan

Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan will tell the story of the golden era of Indian football and that of coach Syed Abdul Rahim who trained the team to win the Asian Games in 1951 and 1962. Directed by Amit Sharma, the film also stars Keerthy Suresh.

Pippa

Ishaan Khatter, Mrunal Thakur, and Priyanshu Painyuli’s war drama Pippa will narrate the story of a war hero Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta who fought in the war against Pakistan in 1971. Directed by Raja Krishna Menon, the film is based on the book The Burning Chaffees by Brigadier Mehta.

The Delhi Files

After superhit films like The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files, Vivek Agnihotri will release The Delhi Files based on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. In an interview, the director said, “The Tashkent Files spoke about Right To Truth, The Kashmir Files will speak about The Right To Justice, and The Delhi Files will be speaking about Right To Life.”

Sam Bahadur

Starring Vicky Kaushal as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Sam Bahadur is a film by Meghna Gulzar who directed the Alia Bhatt-starrer Raazi. With a military career spanning four decades and through five wars, Sam Manekshaw was the first-ever Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of Field Marshal, and his military victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak war led to the creation of Bangladesh.
