Kartik Aaryan is going to have quite a busy year. The actor has a hectic line-up of interesting projects, and his fans are excited to see him in different avatars in his upcoming films. Amongst the many movies that Aaryan is a part of, the most explosive role that the actor will be seen in, is of a news anchor in Dhamaka. Directed by Ram Madhvani, the film will soon premiere on Netflix. 

 

Aaryan looks fresh and intriguing in the latest teaser shared by the makers of the film, but it is not the first time an actor has taken up the role of a journalist. In the past, many stars have taken up this part and portrayed it on screen flawlessly. Rani Mukerji in No One Killed Jessica

 

This has to be one of the most powerful roles essayed by Mukerji. Rani Mukerji played the role of journalist Meera Gaity in this stirring film based on one of the most high-profile murder cases in India — the Jessica Lal murder case. Mukerji won a Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award for her distinguished performance. 

 

Soha Ali Khan in Mumbai Meri Jaan

 

The appalling story of the 2006 Mumbai train bombings was brought forward for the audience with Mumbai Meri Jaan. Soha Ali Khan essayed the role of a thriving reporter who loses her fiancé in the bombings. This film showed a new aspect of the life of a journalist as it explored what ensues when a journalist’s personal life gets abused for insignificant TRPs.

Preity Zinta in Lakshya

 

Famously based on celebrated journalist Barkha Dutt, Preity Zinta’s role in Lakshaya was very pleasing for the audience. Set against the backdrop of the 2004 coming-of-age drama Lakshya, we saw Zinta essay the role of a war correspondent stationed to Kargil, and she did a great job essaying the role. 

 

Nargis Fakhri in Madras Café

 

Ditching the conventional glamorous roles, Nargis Fakhri took up the role of a British war correspondent in the Shoojit Sircar’s political thriller, Madras Café. Based on the backdrop of the Sri Lankan Civil War, her character played a key role in the story. Fakhri’s role was partially inspired by famed war journalist Anita Pratap, and the actress played the role effortlessly on the screen.

 

John Abraham and Arshad Warsi in Kabul Express

 

Abraham and Warsi were seen as television journalists in Kabir Khan’s drama, Kabul Express. The story revolves around how the two journalists witness the massive destruction of land in Afghanistan. The duo is sent to create a story on life in the country post the US invasion of the country in September 2001, and what follows is a series of disturbing events.

Aaryan’s film Dhamaka is an official remake of the 2014 South Korean film The Terror Live. The film will also mark Aaryan’s foray into serious roles after several comical and romantic characters. The film will release in the first half of 2021.
