On Its Way: A Remake Of The 90s Cult Classic Andaaz Apna Apna

A reprise of one of Bollywood’s best loved comedies, starring Aamir and Salman, is on its way to the silver screens.

Hold on to your seats, everyone! You favourite 90s cult classic Andaaz Apna Apna, one of Bollywood’s best loved comedies of all times, may be on its way back to the silver screens. No, we’re not talking about the original film. According to reports, Phantom Productions is all set to recreate the magic onscreen with a remake of the original that immortalized two of the leading Khans of the famous Bollywood triumvirate.

The original, starring Salman and Aamir, was produced by Vinay Sinha whose daughter Preeti Sinha, according to a report in Mumbai Mirror, has given a nod to Phantom films for the remake. She also intends to collaborate with the production house.

In the meanwhile, the script has already been reworked upon by Hardik Mehta and Vivek Soni but speculations are still rife about the lead actors and directors. Of course, it would be disappointing if Aamir and Salman are not roped in for the sequel since we have a reserved a special place in our hearts for their crackling chemistry and superb comic timing in the film, which was originally directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. But this time around, the makers are looking to cast fresh faces for the sequel, which intends to go on floor by December, this year.

If gossip mills are to be believed, Shahid Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor are two favourites that may be roped in for the current project. Surprised? Well, wait till the final announcement. The two directors under consideration for the classic cult film are either Vikas Bahl (of Queen fame) or Vikramaditya Motwane ( of Lootera and Udaan fame).

Andaaz Apna Apna is arguably one of the finest comic capers of the 90s, also starring Raveena Tandon, Karishma Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Shakti Kapoor, Shehzad Khan, Viju Khote, Javed Khan, Mehmood, Jagdeep and Deven Verma, along with cameos by Juhi Chawla and Govinda. And we’re definitely hoping the remake creates the same impact.
