Not everyone wants to bake their sourdough and banana bread, especially when there are artisanal bakeries that offer fresh loaves, cruffins, and so much more. A quick lowdown on where you can get some sweet-smelling stuff.
The Artful Baker
A European style boulangerie, The Artful Baker was first started in Delhi, but during the pandemic, the brand started its cloud kitchen in Mumbai. From handcrafted bread to delectable desserts, Artful does it all. Their cinnamon pull apart bread will lift your apartment’s spirit with its fragrance. They also do cruffins, the crossover of croissant and muffins, with vanilla and chocolate fillings. In case you want a quick pick-me-up this weekend.

Big Bobo’s
Malika Tandon recently started Big Bobo’s Delivery Kitchen in Delhi, and it’s all about pretty looking baked goods. Delhi’s winter is the perfect time to indulge in pies, giant cookies, or galettes, all of which is done by this artisanal kitchen. They also do something called barks, which are beautiful tiles of chocolate, made with some interesting toppings. Also makes for a neat gifting option for any occasions.

Mr & Mitt’s Bakery
This Delhi-based bakery, patisserie, and viennoiserie does a variety of artisanal breads, everyone’s favourite sourdough included. More interesting, at least for me, are their brioche buns. They also have babka, all kinds of croissants, macaroons, choux, and their cinnamon donuts are a very popular choice (by now, you must’ve figured I recommend cinnamon everything, unapologetically). The best part is, their delivery is nationwide.

Notting Hill Bakery
Chef Noor Mubarak decided to start baking during the pandemic to help collect funds for migrants to go back home. A noble cause, and goodies to drool over. Her brioche donuts and babkas are a rage in Mumbai, and she does all kinds of colourful desserts, eclairs, etc. I know I’d love some babka to indulge on a Sunday morning.

The Baker’s Dozen
The Baker’s Dozen in Mumbai has some of the most delicious healthy stuff. Their gluten-free chocolate cake is a dieter’s delight, and the rose pistachio cake makes for such a good high tea accompaniment. They do a chilli cheese sourdough, though, that tops my list, not to mention wholewheat crackers, which can be great with some hummus for an evening in.

Loafer & Company
This Bengaluru-based bakery is all about bread. From bagels, to beautiful focaccia, to baguettes, their aim is to locally source grains, and make the best of it. If you’re someone who, like me, loves all the nice seeds in your bread, like the flax and the pumpkins of the world, they have some healthy, crunchy options available. Like your classic laadi pao? You’ll get it here. Fresh bread for brunch, anyone?
