Good food deserves some real, indulgent dessert after, and while we have no dearth of ice cream options, maybe it’s time to open up to some homegrown, artisanal flavours
Get-A-Whey
Putting this one right on top, because it’s available across multiple locations. While I’m not a big believer in the word “healthy” when picking a dessert, a protein-packed ice cream with no compromise in taste has made me reconsider. Strawberry Banana, Sicilian Pistachio, Belgian Chocolate are some examples of flavours you can delve into if you’re bored of the usual chocobar-ish combinations.
The Fat Little Penguin
An artisanal ice cream brand in Kolkata started by chef Jayatri, The Fat Little Penguin stands for small batches, more premium quality tubs. The menu is curated, and the November menu has some interesting options, like a Coffee Ice Cream Sandwich, Spiced Toffee Apple, or the Butter Mint Chocolate. Might be the perfect company for a solo night in.
Chubby Cheeks
Everyone in Delhi is raving about Chubby Cheeks and its limited, exquisite menu of artisanal ice cream. With a minimum order of one litre (basically your long weekend idea of a binge), their winter menu has Fig & Honey, Very Dark Chocolate, Pick Me Up Coffee, but if you’re looking for a recommendation, their Salted Caramel is quite popular. I’d say get some, and make your own Sunday freak shake.
Scoop’d
Started by chocolate company Felicita Chocolates, Scoop‘d is all about artisanal European flavours. From Lotus Biscoff crumbs to rich Sicilian Pistachio, a bunch of interesting vegan as well as sugar free options, this is where you can get your next ice cream haul from, in Mumbai.
Amadora Gourmet Ice Cream
Amadora in Chennai does artisanal ice cream in small batches, but promises to deliver goodies at your doorstep across India, in mint fresh condition. Their Nutella is said to be a bestseller, but there’s a lot to choose from — ice cream sandwiches, ice cream cakes, sundaes — there’s something for every kind of ice cream lover.
