Confession: I’m not a pizza person (cue gasp). But the surge of artisanal, good quality pizza places in Mumbai has led me to do a quick scan, and here’s where you can get your next slice from.

Hundo Pizza

Hundo started as a digital-first, drive-in pizza brand that’s been all about bringing exotic ingredients on to a hand-tossed, freshly handmade dough, to cater to those who like their pizzas to be special. Their sauces taste fresh, and the veggies have some interesting options. Other than the usual margherita, their Greca is an all-veg pizza with two kinds of cheeses, sautéed spinach (it tastes great, trust me), while their non-vegetarian pizzas have options of meatballs, bbq chicken, as well as bacon, and chorizo.

Queen Margherita’s Pizzeria

Voted as one of the best pizza places by Kareena Kapoor Khan herself, Queen’s focus is on fresh, high-quality ingredients, and fresh Neapolitan crust. Their pizzas are all about making each flavour stand out. From 10-inch thin and gourmet pizzas, to chef special pizzas, from kimchi on pizza to doing a fabulous classic parmesan chicken with a sesame crust where you can literally taste the toasty sesame seeds, Queen’s has an extensive menu, and everything you need for a Saturday night with your friends.

Pizza King

A new kid on the block. Pizza King, started by Bijoy Shah, comes from the passion of bringing classic North American pizza to India by sourcing the best vegetables, making sauces from scratch, and keeping it authentic. From classic hand-tossed to thin crusts, they have very basic corn and mushroom toppings for those who like their pizzas less loaded, and for those who like the Indian masala twist, there’s chicken makhani too, not to mention the classic King’s Margherita, that has bocconcini cheese and basil. Quite yum.

The Greedy Man Pizzeria

Fancy, Naples-inspired wood-fired pizzas. The Greedy Man has been highly recommended for the pizza sauce they use, so in case you’re particular about your sauces, here’s your best bet. Also, if you are doing a night in and want something unusual, they have an Artchokes pizza on the menu, with artichokes, mushrooms, caramelised onions, and basil. Fancy a cheese indulgence? A three-cheese — fresh mozzarella, parmesan, cheddar — with mushrooms and chicken could be exactly what your weekend needs.

1441 Pizzeria

1441 launched interesting DIY kits during the lockdown, and have constantly been innovating their premium ingredients loaded, stone brick oven-made artisanal pizzas. While they’ve been doing the thin crusts, they’re expanding more outlets, starting a new thick crust range, and are also planning to open ghost kitchens, thus making them more accessible, in case you haven’t had the chance to try their pizzas yet. Sounds like a Sunday plan to make.
