Riyaaz Amlani, a dynamic Indian restauranteur, is the CEO and Managing Director of Impresario Entertainment & Hospitality Pvt Ltd.
What’s keeping you busy these days?
Social, of course. We just opened another one in Mumbai last month. Smokehouse Deli too.
Your biggest achievement?
My son, definitely. I am also very happy with the way my company, Impresario, is doing at present. The restaurants are doing very well too, and it is very satisfying to see them grow and become successes.
Your biggest regret?
None, whatsoever.
One resolution you break often?
The usual suspects — eat healthy, quit smoking, work out, read a book, spend time with the family… I keep making them and breaking them.
What is the one skill every man should have?
Every man should know the art of submitting to women.
What is that one thing you always desire?
An early retirement home in the Bahamas.
What are you always searching for?
My keys, mostly.
A life-changing experience?
The birth of my son.
Your favourite place on earth?
I love a lot of places on this planet for different reasons, and it will be so difficult to just pick one.
What irritates you most about people?
I hate it when people look down on other people based on their jobs, or their clothes and cars.
People who have inspired you in life?
I am always inspired by people who aspire for a better life, no matter what their circumstances.
What is the word/phrase you overuse the most?
“Correct”.
If you could live someone else’s life for a day, whose would it be?
Narendra Modi.
What are your fears?
Roller coasters and cockroaches.
An overrated virtue, according to you?
Religious pomposity, if that is a virtue.
What makes you happy?
Kindness and generosity. The best piece of advice someone has given you? My friend Tariq Ansari told me to not take things too seriously.
