With World Vodka Day around the corner (October 4th) and a long weekend approaching, we’ve taken a look at some of the most unique watering holes around India that serve more than a neatly done Martini.
Sidecar, New Delhi
Winner of our 30 Best Bars India awards for Best Bar Menu and Best Independent Bar in India, the New Delhi-based bar has seen instrumental success over the years, also bagging the 18th spot on Asia’s 50 Best Bars list. No surprises then; it goes directly on top of our recommendations.
The Harbour Bar, Mumbai
While India was unaffected by the Prohibition movement of the United States, the drinking culture did seem to make its way to our shores. Capitalizing on the theme is Mumbai’s iconic ‘The Harbour Bar’ in the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. Despite going through a major renovation after the 2008 Mumbai attacks, The Harbour still continues to maintain its vintage charm.
FTR – For The Record, Panaji
This Panjim-based bar, located in an old Portuguese-era building, combines the essence of old-school vinyl bars with new-age cocktails. The whole experience is only further elevated, with a choice of seasonal cocktails, minimal decor, and an extensive collection of vinyl records.
Joseph’s Bar, Goa
There’s perhaps no better place than Joseph that epitomizes the drinking culture of Goa. Nestled in the colourful vicinity of Fontainhas in Panjim, Joseph Bar takes the definition of a “hole in a wall” bar quite literally, with a forever-present swarm of people waiting in line for the few available seats. It’s all worth it, though, with local brews and Kokum-based cocktails helping to take the edge off.
Pecos, Bangalore
Pecos began its journey as a low-key Mexican food joint but slowly transformed into a symbol of Bangalore’s rock capital. Today, the establishment continues to grow its legacy, all thanks to its Classic Rock-inspired interiors and an affordable set of the drinks menu.
