Bringing back old classics like Ramayan and Shaktimaan seem to have done wonders for the national broadcaster, Doordarshan as it was catapulted into the league of the most-watched channel in India for the week ending April 3rd, BARC revealed on Thursday.
The Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) said that this feat involved a nearly 40,000% jump in viewership in the evening and morning bands and was done despite a surge in viewership of private broadcasters.

This was attributed to the national broadcaster re-running the telecast of Ramayana and Mahabharata by BARC.
The South-based Sun TV also saw a surge in its viewership by following this strategy of broadcasting classics.
