Dhruv Kapoor has never been one to play it safe. His designs have always walked the line between nostalgia and futurism, past and possibility. Now, with Nirvana by boAt, he’s channelling that same philosophy into sound. How does design shape the way we experience music? How does sound influence the way we feel? At the heart of it all is the Flaming Heart, a centuries-old symbol Kapoor has reimagined in deep blues and bold reds, burning just as intensely in the digital age.
How did you balance fashion and functionality when designing these audio accessories?
Our focus isn't solely on the final product; it's about evoking emotion. Our goal is to explore different ways to convey emotions through various mediums. With audio accessories, we take a deeper approach—how sound and design together impact your emotional experience. Functionality is the foundation of everything we create. For me, a product must serve a purpose, and with everything we make, we ensure it carries the flavour of our brand.
What was it like working with boAt on this collaboration?
I am always excited to connect with people from diverse backgrounds outside of fashion. Hearing their stories, desires, and how different things make them feel is truly inspiring. Then it’s our turn to turn that conversation into exciting products—simple and straightforward, yet always with a twist.
How does this project connect with your overall design philosophy?
The goal was to express love in its purest yet most intense form. We revisited our archival designs and re-engineered them to seamlessly pair the past with the future, much like how music itself bridges nostalgia and modernity.
Do you see yourself working more with wearable tech in the future?
Absolutely. Experience is everything, regardless of the medium. For Nirvana by boAt, we explored how sound influences emotions, energy, and even our chemistry. This project reinforced our belief in creating immersive experiences through thoughtfully designed products that go beyond just aesthetics.
Your designs often mix nostalgia and futurism. How does Flaming Hearts fit into that?
The symbol of the Flaming Heart is timeless—deeply rooted in history and now transformed into an emoji, representing passion and devotion.
If you could pick one music artist to represent this collection, who would it be?
Ideally, it should be each one of us. But if I had to choose just one, right now it would be my latest obsession—Hanumankind.
