Now, there’s NO WAY that this is a recent phenomenon – those in boarding schools have most likely experienced/seen this kind of thing happening all the time. It happens in fraternities and in situations where men are together for long periods of time. According to a few straight men interviewed for this piece, it’s just easy and clean – no strings attached.

“I mean, yeah, the first time is always weird but after a while, you’re like fuck it, you know?” Nischay Patil (name changed) said. Nischay met his ‘bro with benefits’ at the gym. The first time it happened, the 23-year-old had just broken up with his girlfriend and was looking to experiment.

For a blowjob to be considered a brojob, one of the men involved in the intimate act must identify as primarily straight. A brojob can take place between two straight men or a straight man and a gay man. There are the bisexual men, of course, but they don’t strictly fall under this specific umbrella. 

Another reason that straight men go through with this act is that they feel it’s not supposed to happen. It’s risky, “doesn’t feel right” and is hence, very exciting. “It’s more of, like, you’re not supposed to do it kinda’ thing. Being straight, it just intrigues me. I don’t know. Many straight men also feel they can be more themselves with their bros. There’s a straight guy who started getting brojobs because he could ask for things that he didn’t feel he could say in front of girls. “He’s not easily surprised,” he says, laughing. In fact, there’s even an app for curious men called BRO. The BRO app claims to be an application that “goes beyond the hookup apps and is for men that are interested in meeting other guys”. There’s a setting on the app, however, which allows people to state that they are looking for “whatever, bro” which obviously means exactly what you think it means. 

With discussions and debates about sexuality hitting their peak in recent years, more men are comfortable experimenting with each other. And they are really going for it . . . or at least, their bros are.
