The Best Passports of 2025
Singapore has reclaimed its spot at the top, offering visa-free access to a record-breaking 195 destinations. Known for its efficient diplomacy and global partnerships, Singapore continues to set the standard in international mobility. Japan, with access to 193 destinations, follows closely, having regained visa-free entry to China—a significant improvement post-pandemic.
The next tier is dominated by Europe. France, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Finland, and Spain share third place, granting access to 192 destinations. These countries benefit from strong Schengen agreements and historical ties across continents. Fourth place features Denmark, Austria, Sweden, Ireland, and the Netherlands, with visa-free travel to 191 locations. Meanwhile, the UK, alongside Belgium, Portugal, Switzerland, and New Zealand, rounds out the top five with access to 190 countries.
The Worst Passports of 2025:
At the other end of the spectrum lies Afghanistan, ranked 106th and offering visa-free travel to only 26 countries. This remains the world’s weakest passport, reflecting its ongoing challenges with political instability and international isolation. Similarly, Iraq (31 destinations), Syria (27 destinations), Pakistan (33 destinations), and Yemen (33 destinations) find themselves in the bottom five, largely due to conflicts, economic struggles, and limited diplomatic influence.
Notable Declines:
The rankings also highlight some surprising shifts among traditionally strong passports. The US, once consistently in the top five, has dropped to 9th place with visa-free access to 186 destinations. This decline is attributed to growing isolationist policies and challenges in its foreign relations. India, too, saw a fall, dropping five spots to 85th place. Indian passport holders now enjoy visa-free access to just 57 destinations, sharing the rank with Equatorial Guinea and Niger.
