The coronavirus pandemic has plagued several industries, including the art world. Hence, Sotheby’s decided to hold an online auction which included some highly coveted pieces, but everyone’s eyes were on the rare and famed Bansky painting ‘Girl With Balloon.’
Banksy’s artworks managed to rake up a whopping £1.1 million GBP ($1.4 million USD) at the auction, far exceeding the pre-sale estimate of just £672,000 GBP. There were twp versions of the ‘Girl With Balloon’ painting, one in pink and one in red, which sold for £375,000 GBP and £106,250 GBP respectively.
Apart from this, other pieces that featured were ‘Gangsta Rat’, ‘Di-Faced Tenners,’ ‘Pulp-Fiction,’ ‘Applause,’ ‘Grannies’ and ‘Bomb Love.’

In an interesting turn of events, perhaps due to the current circumstances we find ourselves in, the auction attracted an incredible amount of newcomers. The newcomers made up for 47 per cent of all participants and almost 30 per cent of the bidders were under the age of 40.
