Model-turned-actor Aashim Gulati’s ‘beast mode’ switches on as soon as he wraps up his shooting schedule. The 32-year-old treats his body like a temple, never missing a chance to show off his perfectly toned physique. From meditation to kickboxing, he adopts diverse techniques to keep his mind and body in shape. Here’s what he has to share about his unique fitness regime:

A week in fitness

I focus and try to do as much of a workout as I can ina short period of time, which is 45 minutes to an hour. Most importantly, make sure that I don’t eat anything that’s unhealthy. I prefer simple food.

The must have gym equipment for a home gym

A mat and basic dumbbell equipment is something one needs at home. I feel a TRX band also goes a long way to round things out. Your basic equipment’s weight can range from 5 kg to 20 kg — that’s enough to get started.

Managing fitness with work

I follow a routine and a diet religiously. I make sure that to eat my lunch at a certain time, and stay conscious of what I need to eat to manage this balance.

Things to keep in mind when working out

Stay away from your phone when you’re working out! Be in the zone and don’t get distracted. Finish your workout within 45 minutes to an hour rather than spending two hours chit-chatting with people. It doesn’t do you any good. And yeah, just keep a smile on your face while you’re at it. Don’t make faces when you’re lifting heavy!

A muscle group he loves and hates to work on

Oh, honestly, there are days when I really like doing legs, and there are certain days when I’m just like, I can’t do legs, I’m just too tired. So it’s a love-hate relationship with legs. Otherwise, like I like to do functional training a lot. There’s not any body part that I like to work on in particular.

His fitness inspiration

They keep changing, you know. Sometimes I see someone in the gym who’s like my trainer or another person doing something that seems to be very difficult. I take inspiration from that.

Top three gym tracks

I mostly listen to hip-hop, particularly Eminem and Lil Wayne. My tracks also include Punjabi beats from artists like AP Dhillon.

A fictional character he’d like to work out with

Dwayne Johnson.

Top three cheat meal preferences

I love a nice beef burger. Then pani puri and chaat!
