After making the first stop at Shanghai for his SS21 show, Virgil Abloh took us to Tokyo as part of his ongoing “Message in a Bottle” series. Louis Vuitton hosted conversation tying together ancestral tribes, boyhood memories, progress and everything in between.
We saw Abloh produce additional 59 new looks that explored “the unlimited seas of the imagination” and tried to reimagine the essence of the brand. The models walked out in groups, walking, exploring, dancing on the “stage” for a performance that was live-streamed globally. Uniting people of diverse backgrounds, it demonstrated the mind-bending powers of music and wove a wardrobe suspended between Jamaican dress and subcultural interpretations of British tailoring.
The collection featured a series of tailored suits in vibrant colors, arriving with stuffed figures attached to the jackets. Futuristic patterns were also seen throughout the show, including warped checkerboard prints in black and white. the designs dive into some of label’s iconic features like the Damier and Monogram patterns.
Take a look at few of the pieces below.
