Designers Mayyur Girotra And Nomi Ansari Headline The First-Ever South Asian New York Fashion Week

The first-ever South Asian New York Fashion Week took place in Manhattan, where fifteen designers showcased their talents

At the first-ever South Asian New York Fashion Week, fifteen emerging and established designers made their debut, which took place at different locations in Manhattan.

 

Conceptualized by Sheetal Sharma and Hetal Patel, the week of fashion extravaganza saw presentations and showcases from various brands, runway shows including couture and bridal, and jewelry and accessories marketplace.  The headliners of the show included Mayyur Girotra and Nomi Ansari, whereas others include Rivesse, JinaShili, Aara by Sana, and Margi, What is Moire, Recover Season, Bedi NYC, RKJ Designs, Pali, Kala Mandir, AKS Mathur, Aariah by Sabbineni featuring Avigna Fine Jewels, and Tai by Studio 9696.

Girotra opened the fashion week with his couture presentation, titled Zamani. Through his extravagant craftsmanship and ethereal silhouettes, the designer’s collection captivated the audience as they delved into the journey of South Asian culture and traditional wear. Speaking of headlining the fashion week, Girotra explains how he feels honoured to represent South Asian couture at SANYFW. He adds, “We proudly present the exquisite artistry from the subcontinent, stately grandeur in a glittering visage. The brand MG couture has transcended barriers and has been one of the most beloved brands in the USA for 8 years, we are excited to showcase our collection on a runaway this time.”

The second headliner Nomi Ansari, a Pakistani designer, showcased his couture skills at the SANYFW. Established in 2001, the Nomi Ansari Studio has expanded into four major brands – Nomi Ansari Brides, Nomi Ansari Occasion Wear, Nomi Ansari Menswear and Bubbles, a line exclusively for little girls. Ansari’s every signature piece gives attention to detail, the colour contrast, the delicate zardozi, and the crystal embellishment, a trademark of his designs.

 

Commenting on the headlines, Sharma, the CEO and Founder of SANYFW explains that the founders have made it a life mission to globally celebrate the beauty of South Asian culture and fashion. “That is why we are overjoyed with excitement to have Mayyur Girotra headline the first official SANYFW. His designs are masterpieces that exude the stories and beauty of our culture. Through his collection Zamani, we can truly show the global fashion community how South Asian fashion is nothing short than a work of art.”
