On the first day of the Lakme Fashion Week X FDCI, Shantnu & Nikhil presented their latest Bridal Couture collection – Capella. The designer duo revisited the Baroque Era to bring back opulence and the famous artefacts – the chandeliers. The collection celebrates a woman’s incredible femininity and strength while keeping their love for reminiscence alive.
At the fashion show, the models walked down the runway in magnificent lehengas, while the menswear presentation included draped kurtas, salwars, loose pyjamas, and narrow pants along with buttonless sherwanis, bundgala jackets and bundies. Closing the show, actress Kriti Sanon walked the runway wearing a mint-julep lehenga, adorned with pristine regal stones and muted bullion thread. The prismatic crystals and chandelier-like chains are inspired by the palace of Versailles that made her shine as bright as Capella – the brightest star in the galaxy.
In the Capella collection, all the silhouettes are explored, stretched and elevated, giving that extravaganza touch of the early 17th century. From translucent organza fabric to gold-spun suiting, and tiers of tulle used in veils, the pieces boast of ‘more is more’ this season. From an array of colours merging from blush pink, and pristine off-white, to mint-gold, it pays homage to the magnificent interiors of a Baroque palace.
The maximalist approach is emphasised in the collection to command the attention of the bride, which is a metaphor for a chandelier in a palace. To keep the authenticity of the art alive, the designers have used baroque lace embroidered in Dori work. Every ensemble has a captivating aura of its own it comes alive with the alluring magnetism of our new-age brides.
Speaking about the collection, the designers explained their fascination with history and the impact that it holds. They believe that their previous collections and work have been about reviving nostalgia and retelling stories that have been forgotten over the years. “After over two decades of designing haute couture, it wasn’t surprising that we were looking for a new outlet: A Shantnu & Nikhil bride who redefines bridal couture through the prism of historical Abundance! Capella, named after the brightest star in the sky does exactly that,” the designers explain.
A collection truly curated for new-age brides and grooms, bringing out their actual aura.
