Fans Of GAP Rejoice! The Brand Is Returning To India

The brand has partnered with Reliance Retail to bring the American apparel brand to the country

Looks like you might get the chance to grab GAP’s latest collection with Kanye West very soon.

Reliance Retail has partnered with Gap Inc. to bring the American apparel brand to India, making them the official retailer for all GAP stores across the country.

The new long-term agreement will allow Reliance Retail to introduce the latest fashion offerings from the brand through a mix of exclusive stores and digital e-commerce platforms. The focus will remain on leveraging GAP’s position as a leading casual lifestyle brand and Reliance Retail’s competency in operating robust retail networks, scaling local manufacturing and driving sourcing efficiencies, Reliance Retail said in a statement. The brand will sell womenswear, menswear, and kidswear across the nation.

Adrienne Gernand, the Managing Director of International, Global Licensing and Wholesale at Gap Inc. thinks that partnering with regional experts like Reliance Retail in India will allow them to deliver to the correct consumers across the world, while continuing to diversify its business portfolio through this partner-based model.

Founded in 1969, GAP has been a popular brand, especially for its denim and American-focused styles. “With a strong vision of doing more than selling clothes, Gap shapes culture, championing a uniquely radical and optimistic sense of American style by bridging the gap between individuals, generations, and cultures,” the company said in a statement.

It also marks the brand’s return to India after two years. In 2020, the American retailer terminated its agreement with Arvind Lifestyle Brands, ending its presence in the country.

Reliance Retail has introduced a number of brands under its portfolio, ranging from fashion to food. It houses operations of Kate Spade and Coach, too. Last month, the company got into a long-term franchise agreement with Pret a Manger, an international food franchise.
