Veteran designer and Bronx native Ralph Lauren recently celebrated the company’s 50th anniversary. In recognition of the milestone, the New York Yankees hosted a special pre-game home plate ceremony on September 20. Lauren, a lifelong baseball fan, was also invited to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Yankees–Red Sox game in New York.
The designer has always cited the rich heritage of the quintessentially American sport as an inspiration, celebrating the country’s iconography through his designs. Growing up in the golden age of baseball, he idolised iconic Yankees players like Mickey Mantle.
To commemorate the event, Ralph Lauren and Major League Baseball have partnered on a licensing agreement to create a limited-edition Ralph Lauren Yankees collection. It features a classic baseball jacket, a New Era baseball cap, a Wilson baseball glove and a Rawlings commemorative baseball.
