Legendary designer Ralph Lauren is on his way to earn a prestigious British honour, the Honorary Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE). This will make him the first American fashion designer to earn this honour and he can now officially request to be called Ralph Lauren KBE.
Then 79 year-old designer celebrated 50 years of being in the industry in September and is considered to be one of the biggest names in fashion. In a report by WWD, Antony Phillipson, Queen Elizabeth’s Trade Commissioner for North America and British Consul General to New York said, “in fashion, business and philanthropy, Mr. Lauren has played a key role in forging transatlantic cultural and economic connections. As creator and visionary of the Ralph Lauren brand worldwide, Mr. Lauren has been a vanguard for the global fashion industry and American style for nearly half a century. In addition, monumental philanthropic efforts, especially in the realm of public health, cancer research and treatment in both the U.S. and the U.K., have led to benefits felt by citizens around the world.”
From receiving the key to New York to the French Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur, Lauren has a long list of great accomplishments and achievements and will now have his name be included among the likes of George H.W. Bush, Angelina Jolie, Steven Spielberg, Bill and Melinda Gates, who all belong to the small group of Americans who have received this honour.
