Whenever the world is seemingly falling apart, fashion has been a steadfast refuge for everyone. From coping with the challenges of COVID-19 to enduring times of conflict, one unchanging source of solace is the runway and the creativity that graces it. As we officially step into the most stylish month, or rather, the most fashionable season, let’s explore what awaits us at the inaugural event of this fashion week. Hello, New York!
The Return of Ralph
American designer Ralph Lauren returns to the fashion schedule after his last showcase in September 2019. He will present his women’s SS2024 collection. Lauren has previously hosted off-calendar events in Los Angeles and New York, with his most recent U.S. show occurring last October at the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California.
Peter Do’s debut collection for Helmut Lang
Helmut Lang, following a restructuring, has appointed a new creative director Peter Do. With his focus on clean lines and modern tailoring, Peter is poised to unveil his first SS/2024 collection on day one, just before Prabal Gurung. The brand’s teaser showcases a model stepping in and out of a New York cab, hinting at a classic presentation with a focus on tailoring.
Indian designers at NYFW
Several Indian designers are poised to present their collections at NYFW this season. Kicking off on the 9th, Archana Kochhar’s collection, hinted at in BTS stories, exudes bridal glamour. On the 11th, designer duo Falguni and Shane Peacock will unveil their opulent SS2024 collection, renowned for its larger-than-life bridal designs that showcase their opulence and sophisticated craftsmanship. From SJP’s lehenga moment in “Just Like That” Season 1 to Malala’s pre-Oscar celebration ensemble, these designers are making waves globally. Additionally, notable Indian designers like Naeem Khan and Bibhu Mohapatra, based in the United States, will also showcase their collections.
Victoria’s Secret The Tour ’23
After two decades in lingerie, Victoria’s Secret is rebranding its annual fashion show as “The World Tour.” Premiering on Amazon Prime on September 26, the show features a star-studded lineup and highlights work from around 20 innovative creatives worldwide. The brand seeks to merge fashion, film, art, and culture while spotlighting emerging global talents. Ahead of the premiere, Victoria’s Secret will offer a sneak peek during New York Fashion Week, including a preview event and a surprise musical performance.
