Actor Jim Sarbh talks about his wardrobe fetishes, the perfect suit, and more.

How do you define fashion? What does it mean to you?

I really don’t. It means not being naked.

How has working in the film industry influenced your personal style?

Well, it’s got to the point where I can afford things I couldn’t imagine before. I’m called in to be a part of fashion shoots, and designers will dress me up for events; suddenly I’ve been opened up to this new world of fashion, and I’m figuring out how to let my taste merge with it.

What do you consider your personal style statement?

Naked is better.

What was your last purchase?

Someone got me some sweet, green vinyl Converse shoes.

Do you prefer tailored or off the rack?

Herringbone & Sui made me a groovy suit once. Ask me again in a year.

Are you into designer wear?

I like Gucci, Arjun Saluja, Gaurav Khanijo and Rajesh Pratap Singh, although I’ve never worn any of their clothes in real life, only for events. I feel like I’d ruin them in real life. I’m a bit rough and tumble. I can’t climb a tree in a Gucci suit and not feel like an asshole.

Do you wear any jewellery?

I have a brown leather strip tied around my left ankle. A little bling is good to get into character, though.

What about watches?

I can’t afford any of the watches I really like, but my dad gave me a gorgeous Vacheron Constantin 1972.

How would you describe the perfect suit?

I like when it fits me well, and is elegant and bold.

Do you have any wardrobe fetishes?

Not really. Ask me again when I’m richer.

What are the casual and formal items every man must own?

Jeans, a T-shirt, a dark suit, flip flops and face paint.

What is one piece of style advice you would give all men?

“You don’t have to do that.”

What goes into maintaining your hair and beard?

Waking up in the morning.
