Saransh Goila’s food might be melt-in-your-mouth delicious, but that’s not all that we like about him. He is also always dressed well, and we spoke to him for tips on how to make a great style statement.

  • I’ve realised over time that you can only truly be stylish if you understand your body type well, quickly accept and adapt to things that work for you and discard the ones you might aspire to wear, but which don’t work for you at all.
  •

  • When in doubt, pick monochromes and you can never go wrong.
  •

  • A statement watch is a necessity with every ensemble. I’m a huge watch hoarder, right from fine Italian leather straps, to Swiss metallic watches, multi-hued dials and of course the timeless pocket watch – there’s one for every occasion.
  •

  • Try some old world charm, customise your outfits your way. I have my initials embroidered onto my shirt pockets in a custom font.
  •

  • Being a chef, my coat is my uniform and I ensure that it is in varied hues rather than the frequently used whites and creams.
  •

  • Instead of a pen, which is rather mainstream, I tuck a miniature whisk into the side panel of my chef’s coat.

  •

  • Choose a fabric you’re comfortable in, especially during the scorching summer heat.
  •

  • When in doubt, wear a cool linen jacket. If you aren’t afraid of colour, pair it with a quirky T-shirt. For a night out, just pair it with a monochrome shirt and a well fitted pair of denims.
  •

  • Tie your own bowtie; retro is the new sexy. Ties are passé.
  •

  • Johnny Depp is my style icon. He can look good in just about anything.
  •

  • Comfort always takes precedence over trends. If you are uncomfortable in what you are wearing, you will never do justice to the ensemble.
