Givenchy has announced Matthew Williams as its new creative director.

Williams is the founder of streetwear label 1017 ALYX 9SM. This would be the 34-year-old designer’s first major creative role, which will see him relocating to Paris from California.

“I am extremely honored to join the House of Givenchy,” Williams stated. “The maison’s unique position and timeless aura make it undeniable icon and I am looking forward to working together with its ateliers and teams, to move it into a new era, based on modernity and inclusivity.”

He quickly gained major attention after he shortlisted for the 2016 LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers. Williams has previously collaborated with Kanye West and Lady Gaga. He will present his first collection for the french label in Paris this October.

“I want to warmly welcome Matthew M Williams to the beautiful Maison Givenchy,” says Renaud de Lesquen, CEO and President of Givenchy. “I am convinced that, with his unapologetic approach to design and creativity and in great collaboration with the Maison’s exceptional ateliers and teams, Matthew will help Givenchy reach its full potential.”
