Louis Vuitton is the latest designer brand to provide aid in the fight against the global coronavirus pandemic. The French fashion house has reopened a number of its production sites to manufacture up to 100,000 masks a week.

Along with face masks, the house is also producing hospital gowns in its ready-to-wear atelier in Paris. The gowns will be donated to frontline workers and staff in six hospitals in Paris. The initiative is being led by twenty volunteers who are working to create thousands of gowns.

The fashion house announced the news of production of masks and gowns in Instagram posts. They said: “In order to provide protective gear to healthcare workers, Louis Vuitton has repurposed several of the maison’s ateliers across France to produce hundreds of thousands of non-surgical face masks,” the brand announced on its Instagram account. “In partnership with the Mode Grande Ouest textile network, this initiative will donate the much-needed protective gear to frontline healthcare workers. Thank you to the hundreds of artisans who have volunteered to create these masks, as well as everyone doing their part to fight this global pandemic.”

“Louis Vuitton announces the production of thousands of hospital gowns to be donated to frontline medical staff within the Parisian hospital network AP-HP. These gowns will be created by volunteers at the Maison’s headquarters for six Parisian hospitals in urgent need of protective gear. Thank you to everyone who is doing their part to fight this global pandemic,” said the brand in an Instagram post.
