The COVID-19 pandemic has brought the world to a standstill with our way of life being brought to a close. The pandemic has also devastated an already staggering global economy and shuttered many industries. The theatre and movie business is no different. Film shoots were cancelled and movie releases were postponed, costing production houses tons of money.

During the national lockdown, theatres were shut down to prevent the spread of the contagious virus. However, following a lull in the spread, theatres were allowed to operate at 50 per cent occupancy but the fear of the virus and the easy availability of OTT platforms ensured that not many people went to the cinema halls.

However, authorities have now declared that theatres can operate at 100 per cent occupancy. Safety measures and protocols must strictly be followed, hence. The hero behind this change is none other than Sunny Deol.

A report in Bollywood Hungama states that: “It was Sunny Deol who led the delegation from the film industry and met Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs of India, Prakash Javadekar, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Amit Khare, Secretary, I & B Ministry and Anurag Thakur, Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs, a few days back. He requested them to consider the request for allowing theatres to function at greater than 50% occupancy, and preferably at 100% itself.”

“On behalf of all MAI (Multiplex Association of India) members, I would like to thank Shri Sunny Deol ji for his tireless and unwavering efforts in getting back the 100% capacity for cinemas.
