After celebrating three decades in Bollywood over a rare Instagram live session, actor Shah Rukh Khan brought up his experiences working with fellow star Salman Khan, and hinted at an upcoming joint onscreen appearance.
In the half-hour video, the 56-year-old Bollywood veteran touched upon several life achievements, upcoming projects, and his views on working with Salman.
“With Salman Khan, there is no working experience,” said Shah Rukh. “There’s always a love experience, happy experience, friendly experience, and brotherly experience. It’s amazing whenever I work with him. We haven’t really done a full-fledged film together, apart from one (Karan Arjun), which was also not full-fledged, to be honest. We were not together in the film for too long. So we get to work 4-5 days in a year sometimes in a film.”
Karan Arjun is an old 1995 blockbuster, in which both actors play a pair of brothers seeking revenge for the murder of their father. It was an instant box office success, but was curiously never followed up with another SRK-Salman teamup.
Some attribute this to a long-standing feud between the two actors, the seeds of which were sown as far back as 2003 – when Salman forced his way on the sets of SRK-produced Chalte Chalte to meet his then-girlfriend Aishwarya Rai, who was soon replaced with Rani Mukherji.
The pair reportedly patched up at Farah Khan’s wedding with Shirish Kunder, only to have another falling out years later at a birthday party for Salman’s former girlfriend, Katrina Kaif. While reports on the nature of their confrontations across the years have been murky, the fact remains that despite appearing cordial at recent social events, the two haven’t worked together again – at least outside of cameos.
Shah Rukh went on to discuss his cameo in Salman’s 2017 film Tubelight, and how Salman appeared for a musical sequence in his previous film, 2018’s Zero.
“Now, in Pathaan,” he added, mentioning Salman’s upcoming cameo for the upcoming 2023 release, “I don’t know if this should be a secret, but Inshallah I will try to be in Tiger also. It’s great fun working with him. It’s always very nice.” The actor also released a poster for the film, which went up on his social media platforms:
Interestingly, Salman himself has already hinted that the two will be cast together in Tiger 3, which he did during his birthday party back in December 2021.
“We will both be seen in Tiger 3 as well as in Pathaan. Tiger will release by December next year. Pathaan may release before it.”
While fans seem hopeful for a longstanding reunion, we’ll likely find out as the trailer for Pathaan releases, sometime during the last quarter of 2022.
