Kim Kardashian is a billionaire now, as reported by Forbes.
The magazine reported that the reality star’s net worth reached $1bn (£720m) thanks to her cosmetics and clothing interests as well as income from TV, endorsement deals and investments. Kardashian is now one of the 2,755 figures on Forbes’ World’s Billionaires List.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos leads the list with a net worth of $177bn. Other Americans added to the list in the past year include Bumble dating app founder Whitney Wolfe Herd ($1.3bn), filmmaker Tyler Perry ($1bn) and Miriam Adelson ($38.2bn), widow of casino magnate Sheldon Adelson.
The business magazine reported that the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star’s worth had risen to $1bn from $780m in October thanks especially to her stakes in the KKW Beauty cosmetics business and the Skims shapewear company. The shapewear company has proved to be successful in the Work From Home era. She has used her huge social media presence (213m followers on Instagram; 69.7m followers on Twitter) during the coronavirus lockdowns to promote Skims loungewear.
The Forbes estimate means Kardashian joins her soon-to-be ex-husband Kanye West in the billionaire’s club. The publication on Tuesday estimated West’s net worth at $1.8 billion, mostly from deals on his Yeezy sneaker and fashion line.
Kardashian filed for divorce from West in February, citing irreconcilable differences. According to reports, the makeup mogul is seeking joint custody of the children and her filing states the couple has a prenuptial agreement that will determine how their assets will be divided. It cites irreconcilable differences for their breakup and does not list a separation date.
The couple began dating in 2012 and had their first child in 2013. West proposed later that year using the giant screen at the empty waterfront ballpark of the San Francisco Giants, and the two married May 24, 2014, in a ceremony at a Renaissance fortress in Florence, Italy.
The beginning of the end of the marriage comes after the September announcement that the show that made her family’s name, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, was coming to an end in 2021 after 14 years.
