From Shehzada and Laal Singh Chaddha to Pathaan and Adipurush, here is the full list of films that you’ll get to watch on the big screen this year

February was full of surprises with the release of some of the highly-anticipated films like Gangubai Kathiawadi, Bheemla Nayak, Valimai, and many more. With the films making their way to the cinemas, there is a hope that the theatres, badly hit by the coronavirus pandemic, could revive fully very soon. The shifting of cinema trends from the streaming platforms, is difficult but not entirely impossible, given the box office success of recently released films. From Shehzada and Laal Singh Chaddha to Pathaan and Adipurush, here is the full updated list of films that will release in 2022:

 

RRR

SS Rajamouli’s next film, RRR, is set for a January 7th release. The Baahubali fame director has cast Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Jr. NTR, and Ram Charan in the film that is set in pre-independence India. RRR is a fictional take on the real-life of freedom fighters Komaram Bheem and Alluri Seetharama Raju.

 

Prithviraj

Prithviraj is a historical action drama based on the life of Prithviraj Chauhan, a Hindu king. Featuring Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chillar, it also stars Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Sood, Ashutosh Rana, and others. The film’s based on an epic poem about the epic life of the king, Prithviraj Raso.

 

Pathaan

Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham and Dimple Kapadia will be starring in Siddharth Anand’s Pathaan. Khan will be seen on screen after a three-year sabbatical from movies, with his last one being Zero. It promises to be a thrilling spectacle with never witnessed before scenes. It is a film that takes place in the same universe as Tiger and War, and we might see an appearance from the stars of those films in the movie too. The film will release on August 15th.

 

Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali:

Producers Nadiadwala Grandson recently took to Instagram to announce the release date of Salman Khan and Pooja Hegde starrer Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on 30th December. The film will mark the seventh collaboration between Nadiadwala and Khan after films such as Judwaa, Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, and Kick. Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali will be Khan’s only release in 2022. In 2021, the actor was seen in Antim: The Final Truth and Radhe. He is expected to make a cameo in Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan as well.

 

Maidaan:

Ajay Devgn essays the role of Syed Abdul Rahim in the film about football in India. The movie is set for a theatrical release on June 3rd.

 

Laal Singh Chaddha:

Laal Singh Chaddha has been in the news for its diverse locations, long and grueling shooting schedule, delays due to the pandemic, and perfectionist Aamir Khan’s unbelievable transformation into the titular character. This long-awaited comedy-drama is directed by Advait Chandan from a screenplay written by Eric Roth and Atul Kulkarni. It is the official adaptation of the 1994 film Forrest Gump (based on Winston Groom’s 1986 novel of the same name). The film also stars Kareena Kapoor and will see Naga Chaitanya making his Hindi film debut.

 

The Kashmir Files:

Vivek Agnihotri’s film is based on the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990. The movie is produced by Zee Studios and Tej Narayan Agarwal, Abhishek Agarwal, Pallavi Joshi, and Agnihotri. The Kashmir Files is scheduled for release in theatres on January 26th.

 

Shabaash Mithu:

Directed by Srijit Mukherjee, Shabaash Mithu is a biographical film on Indian cricket team captain Mithali Raj and Taapsee Pannu plays the cricketer. Shabaash Mithu releases on December 3rd. The movie will chronicle the highs and lows, setbacks, and moments of euphoria of Raj’s life.

 

Jayeshbhai Jordaar:

The movie features Ranveer Singh, Shalini Pandey, Boman Irani, Ratna Pathak Shah, and Deeksha Joshi. This upcoming Bollywood film of 2022 is a social comedy film of a man who believes in the equality of men and women in society. The film will release in theatres on February 25th, after being delayed several times as the makers were not looking to stream it on OTT platforms.

 

Bachchhan Panday:

This upcoming Bollywood film of 2022 is slated to release on March 18th and will star Akshay Kumar alongside Kriti Sanon and Jacqueline Fernandez in leading roles. It is allegedly a remake of the 2014 film Veeram. The plot revolves around an ageing gangster, Bachchan Pandey, whose daughter gets murdered by his subordinates. Teaming up with his daughter’s lover, who was also her classmate, they try to bring justice.

 

Shamshera:

Another upcoming Bollywood film of 2022 starring Ranbir Kapoor, Shamshera, was initially set to release in 2020, but Covid delayed the release to March 18th. The movie also stars Vaani Kapoor, and Sanjay Dutt, who will portray the antagonist. Set in pre-Independence India, the film is the Indian adaptation of Howard Pyle’s novel Merry Adventures of Robin Hood.

 

Bhool Bhulaiya 2:

A standalone sequel to the 2007 iconic horror-comedy film Bhool Bhulaiya, this upcoming Bollywood film of 2022 will release on March 25th. This comedy-horror film features stars Kartik Aaryan, Tabu, and Kiara Advani.

 

KGF Chapter 2:

KGF: Chapter 2 is a period drama and a sequel to the 2018 KGF: Chapter 1. The film is to release on April 14th in Kannada, along with the dubbed versions of Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, and Malayalam. It will feature actors like Yash, Sanjay Dutt, Srinidhi Shetty, Raveena Tandon, and Prakash Raj.

 

Jug Jug Jiyo:

A comedy-drama, Jug Jug Jiyo will star Varun Dhawan, Neetu Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, and Kiara Advani in lead roles, alongside Prajakta Koli and Manish Paul. The film is set to release on June 24th and promises to be a fun watch.

 

Liger:

A sports action film, Liger stars Vijay Deverakonda, who plays a fighter, Ananya Panday and, professional boxer Mike Tyson. The film will release on August 25th, and the story revolves around Lalit, an aspiring boxer.

 

Bhediya:

Another film from the comedy-horror genre, Bhediya catches our attention as it is India’s first werewolf film. It is the third installment of Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy universe that features Roohi and Stree. Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon will play the lead roles, alongside Janhvi Kapoor and Flora Saini. The film will release theatrically worldwide on November 25th.
