Comedian Kapil Sharma‘s upcoming film, Zwigato will see him in a different, never-seen-before light. Directed by Nandita Das, in a trailer that was recently dropped, Sharma is seen engaging in a conversation with his on-screen wife played by Shahana Goswami. Sharma essays the role of a food delivery rider and dons a serious yet relatable avatar in the movie.
Zwigato will have a world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The trailer was also shared on Twitter.
The movie is set in the quaint town of Bhubaneshwar, Odisha, where a family tries their best to make ends meet. While Sharma struggles to sustain his family post-pandemic, his wife offers to help by working at night. But a strong patriarchal upbringing doesn’t let him approve of the idea.
In a statement, Das said, “Zwigato is finally ready! A story about new urban India that is not just about the gig economy, but also about everything that we normalize around us. I found the perfect producing partner in Sameer Nair to tell this simple yet complex slice-of-life film. I am thrilled that it will premiere soon at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). This means a lot to me personally as I have debuted there both as an actor and director, with Fire and Firaaq, respectively. Over the years, several other films have taken me to TIFF. I hope the universality of the theme of the film will resonate with the amazing audiences that the festival attracts from all over the world.”
Just like the team, the audience is also equally excited to see Sharma in a new avatar. Here is what people are saying:
Sometime ago Sharma acknowledged his work with Das and uploaded a picture with a thoughtful caption. Here is what it was:
A few months ago, rumors were rife that Sharma’s famous comedy show will be going off air. But the popular comedian was quick to assert that he was just on a break.
