Kangana Ranaut is known to not mince her words and doesn’t waste a second when it comes to giving people a piece of her mind. She has often targetted Bollywood stars in her tweets and interviews and has called them out for one thing or another. Recently, something very similar happened when the star was asked to comment on Deepika Padukone.
Ranaut, who was last seen in Thalaivi, is set to host Ekta Kapoor’s new show, Lock Upp. The producer and the actress held a promotional event for the same where Ranaut was asked to comment on the latest controversy surrounding Padukone. The actress lashed out at the journalist, saying that she is not here to promote Padukone but her own project.
It all started when the journalist asked the actress to share her thoughts on the whole Gehraiyaan promotions controversy. A social media influencer named Freddy Birdy had commented on Padukone’s wardrobe getting shorter with each promotional event. The jibe was not taken well by the Piku star, who gave a savage reply to Birdy. And while many people spoke about the issue, Ranaut simple decided to diss the journalist herself.
“Look, I am here to defend those who can’t defend themselves. Alright? She can defend herself. She has the privilege, the platform and I can’t promote her film here. Sit down,” Ranaut curtly said.
When the correspondent continued to pursue the actress, she snapped and said, “Of course, you named the film. You are also naming a film which is coming. Obviously, you are being planted by the PRs of the said film. Arre yaar, hum itne bhi toh naadaan nahi hai na (I am not so naive). Do it outside, I will engage with you for 45 minutes.”
This is when Ekta Kapoor stepped in to control the situation. “It’s a different press conference, my friend.” The journalist responded by saying that Ranaut’s tone while answering her question”‘was a little condescending”. The actress once again replied abruptly, “You know, this is an old trick. The last time I was banned by the media in the same press conference, it didn’t lead to anything. So please have a seat.”
Interestingly, this is not the first time Kangana Ranaut has gotten herself involved in a war of words with a journalist. She had a similar argument with a journalist at the Judgementall Hai Kya press conference in 2019. She had accused the reporter of running a ‘smear campaign’ against her. A section of the media reacted to the same by announcing a boycott against her.
