Actor Siddharth may not have thought that a tweet will land him so much trouble. We are already familiar with the sensitive comment he passed against Saina Nehwal. But he probably didn’t expect an FIR for it.
The Hyderabad Police has booked the actor based on a complaint filed by BJP leaders Neelam Bhargava Ram and Prerna T. The actor has been booked under Section 67 of the IT Act and Section 509 of the Indian Penal Code. He’s yet to comment on the same.
It all started when Nehwal tweeted her concern over the incident in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy was stopped. The actor retweeted her tweet and wrote, “Subtle cock champion of the world…Thank God we have protectors of India. Shame on you #Rihanna.”
He received a lot of backlash for the comment, following which he sent out an apology to Nehwal. “Dear Saina, I want to apologise to you for my rude joke that I wrote as a response to a tweet of yours a few days ago. I may disagree with you on many things, but even my disappointment or anger when I read your tweet, cannot justify my tone and words.
I know I have more grace in me than that. As for the joke, if a joke needs to be explained, then it wasn’t a very good joke to begin with. Sorry about a joke that didn’t land,” he said.
The National Commission for Women had also issued a statement saying that the comment was “misogynist and outrageous to the modesty of a woman amounting to disrespect and insult to the dignity of women on social media platforms.” NCW chief, Rekha Sharma wrote to the resident grievance officer of Twitter India, asking them to block the actor’s account.
