Top 5 Announcements From CinemaCon 2022 Include ‘The Batman’ Sequel, A ‘Barbie’ Movie, And More

Disney is also rumored to have showcased the first look of the ‘Avatar’ sequel at CinemaCon 2022

The Caesar Palace in Las Vegas, Veada just hosted CinemaCon 2022. For the initiated, CinemaCon is a trade show organized by The National Association of Theatre Owners, which invites big-name studios to showcase their latest and greatest. And CinemaCon 2022 was no different. From Warner Brothers announcing the sequel to Robert Pattinson’s ‘The Batman’ to Sony announcing the sequel to ‘Venom 2’, there is a lot of stuff to look forward to.

Here are our top five picks of the most noteworthy announcements made at CinemaCon 2022:

5) ‘Venom 3’ announced

Eddie Brock will be back with his unhinged sidekick, Venom, for a third sequel in the series. Venom 1 and 2 garnered positive responses from the audience, with many praising the buddy-comedy equation between Brock and Venom. While no details are out yet, we expect Andy Serkis to helm the third movie as well. The burning question, however, considering the end-of-credits scene of Venom 2, could we finally see Venom going up against Spiderman? Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

4) Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel announced

Sony’s booth was busy this year with a lot of details being shared on a host of Spiderman projects, including showcasing the first 15 minutes of the upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The studio also sneaked in the announcement of an upcoming Ghostbusters movie, which will be a sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife that released last year.

3) First look of ‘Barbie’

This is perhaps one of the most interesting projects in the pipeline. Warner Brothers shared the first look of its upcoming Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, playing Barbie and Ken, directed by Greta Gerwig. While details are scarce, we do know that the movie will have cameos from America Ferrara, Simu Liu, Michael Cera, Will Ferrell, Kate McKinnon and more. If reports are to be believer, we’ll have to wait until July 21st, 2023, to catch this one.

2) Wonka’s first look

Among the list of movies announced at CinemaCon 2022, Warner Brothers also offered a glimpse of a new Willy Wonka movie starring Timothee Chalamet. During the brief preview of Wonka, which is slated for a 2023 Christmas release, Chalamet can be seen singing and dancing with supporting cast members like Olivia Colman, Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins and more. While the teaser hasn’t been released to the public yet, attendees of the event described it as a cross between Paddington and The Greatest Showman, and that sure sounds exciting to us.

1) ‘The Batman’ sequel

Perhaps the biggest announcement of the event was that of a sequel to ‘The Batman’. Warner Brothers confirmed that Matt Reeves will return with Robert Pattinson to continue the story of Gotham’s caped crusader. Again, while details are scanty, we have our theories on what Reeve might be cooking up for the sequel.
