Brendan Fraser Looks Unrecognisable In Darren Aronofsky’s ‘The Whale’

Starring alongside Fraser is Stranger Things star, Sadie Sink

The Brendan Fraser comeback is finally gaining momentum. First look of the actor in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale was released yesterday, sending shockwaves through the internet. Set for a premier at the 2022 Venice Film Festival, The Whale starring Fraser in the lead tells the story of a man living with obesity, who is struggling to reconnect with his 17-year-old daughter.

Here’s what the official synopsis reads like, “A reclusive English teacher suffering from severe obesity attempts to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter for one last chance at redemption.”

The Whale is based on Samuel D. Hunter’s play of the same name and stars Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink, Hong Chau, Samantha Morton and Ty Simpkins, alongside Fraser. This is also Aronofsky’s first film since 2017’s Mother! which garnered mix reviews from critics and audiences.

While we’re yet to get a trailer, Fraser shed some light on what we’re in for In an interview with Unilad last year. “It’s gonna be like something you haven’t seen before/ That’s really all I can tell you…The wardrobe and costume was extensive, seamless, cumbersome. This is certainly far removed from anything I’ve ever done but not to be coy…I do know it’s going to make a lasting impression,” he said.

Fraser has been slowly making a comeback into Hollywood, after starring in a supporting role in Steven Soderbergh’s No Sudden Movie last year. After the Aronofsky movie, the actor will be seen in Martin Scorsese’s western Killers of the Flower Moon.

While A24 hasn’t announced a release date yet, the first look image has stirred up a storm over the internet. Here’s what the fans are saying
